The Hesse-Cassel Corps of Field Jaegers, 1776-1783

The Hessian Jaeger Corps hired by the British to fight during the American War for Independence was among the finest light troops employed during the conflict.  Armed with short rifles and dressed in green they were every bit the equals of the Patriots with their long rifles.  Having both mounted and foot components they fought in nearly every campaign from 1776-1782 and were rarely bested on the field of battle.  Don Troiani shows a Jaeger patrol about 1778 after the wear and tear of active campaigning was taking a toll on their uniforms.
